BTU Calculator
Find out the cooling capacity your room needs — sized for Malaysia's tropical heat. Enter your room dimensions and we'll recommend the right AC unit in BTUs and HP.
How the BTU Calculator Works
BTU (British Thermal Unit) measures a cooling unit's capacity. The right BTU rating ensures your room cools quickly and the AC doesn't short-cycle (which wastes electricity and wears the compressor).
1
Base calculation
Room area × 500 BTU/m² (standard metric rate for Malaysia's tropical climate × 1.25 adjustment).
2
Ceiling & sun adjustments
High ceilings add 10% heat load; west- or south-facing rooms exposed to full sun also add 10%.
3
Room type & occupants
Kitchens add 4,000 BTU for cooking heat; each additional person adds 600 BTU of body heat.
Quick Reference — AC Size Guide (Malaysia)
1.0 HP 9,000 BTU up to ~15 m²
1.5 HP 12,000 BTU 15–25 m²
2.0 HP 18,000 BTU 25–35 m²
2.5 HP 24,000 BTU 35–45 m²
